Project Mc² Experiment Doll – McKeyla’s Glue Tattoo Review

My Daughter is a fan of the Netflix show Project Mc² and it’s one I don’t mind her watching. The characters are strong, clever girls that use their love of science and tech to take on spy missions for top-secret organisations. Both my husband and I come from technology backgrounds and whilst I wouldn’t push her in any direction, my wish is for her to dream big, and not think science or engineering is beyond her.

We were sent a Project Mc² experiment doll to review from a new range of S.T.E.A.M – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths, inspired products. Each doll, based on girls from the show, comes with an experiment that you can do at home with household ingredients and experiment accessories. We were sent Mckeyla and her experiment glue tattoos. My Daughter was so excited, she couldn’t wait to get started but she did first make sure it wasn’t a real tattoo! With a birthday party to go to later she was looking forward to a glittery tattoo to go with her outfit.

McKeyla comes in a stylish dress and has lovely swishy multi coloured hair and moveable joints. She also has a comb, masquerade mask, unicorn headband, stencils, paintbrush and paint bucket for the experiment. We needed to add some household ingredients, my only criticism being that these aren’t printed on the outside of the box, so there was a bit of a mad scramble to go buy some food colouring. My Daughter chose a few colours for her tattoos so instead of using the little paint bucket we used a couple of plastic containers for mixing. It was fun and easy to do, although just a little bit messy as we went to town with the glitter. I painted the mixture over the stencil but my Daughter who is 6-years-old, could have easily have done it herself and she enjoyed making the mixture. Once we peeled the stencil off we added the glitter and then was the hardest part of the experiment – my Daughter had to keep still! It was a great opportunity for her to play with the doll whilst her arm dried.

We were impressed with the results and the tattoo looked great. It even survived a trampolining party. When it came to removing the tattoo, we found that soaking with soap and water for a few minutes worked best. Don’t be too tempted to pick the tattoo off. In a few minutes, we could peel it off in big pieces and then collect all the bits without getting glitter down the sink.

A doll with added inspiring S.T.E.A.M got the thumbs up from both of us and I’m looking forward to seeing what they might come up with next. Inspiring our girls and boys into playing with science and technology is such a good thing.

We were sent the Project Mc² McKeyla doll in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
